I have played a huge role in helping to establish a small family business, Simkins Deckchairs.
I have been involved in every part of the enterprise: researching, designing, building, marketing
and selling deckchairs to local garden centres.
I have also been in charge of designing and programming the website as well as all the content.
I have designed and researched a new and innovative chocolate product: The Celebration Balloon.
The product was tailored towards Thorntons, but the design and concept is entirely original and
as part of my proposal to Thorntons, I produced sample packaging and promotional material using
Adobe Photoshop.
Over the summer I have worked at several agricultural shows in a burger van and as a packer in a food factory.
I volunteered as a library assistant for 5 years at Gillingham School and this has given me plenty of experience working behind a counter.
In 2016 I was involved in the year 11 mentoring program. I was responsible for year 7 students whom their tutors
believed would benefit from the guidance of older students.
I have assisted in lower school lessons, working with individuals and groups who were identified to particularly
struggle with maths.
During my upper years at Gillingham School, I was a leader of the Student Library Committee. This involved managing a committee of 20-30 younger
students and helping them to organise charity events.
I attended Bramley House Care Home on a weekly basis to assist and act as a companion for the residents.
I have designed and programmed my own website from scratch: www.EdenSimkins.co.uk and I am currently developing the website for our small family business.
To this end I have developed an understanding of the programming languages HTML, CSS and C# including CSS Grid.
Since completing my A levels I have dived into robotics. I have built a smart car using a Raspberry Pi and have made an Android app to control it in Android Studio.
During this project I have been learning the programming languages Kotlin and Python.
I have been a Lay Deacon at my local church since the age of 12. In this role I am required to lead one or
two services a month and to read the gospel to the congregation.
This experience is invaluable and has made addressing large audiences almost effortless.
In my role as Deputy Head Girl and as a leader of the Student Library Committee, I have often put myself
forward for public speaking opportunities including at the lower school prize giving.
In February 2019 I was one of the two principle speakers in a presentation to the Gillingham Town Council
highlighting the lack of student parking in the Gillingham and how we might combat this problem
I have performed in public on numerous occasions in school concerts, on the school music tour to Tuscany,
in a local opera ‘The Veteran’s Dream’, in the production of ‘Magna Cantata’ at Salisbury Cathedral and
as a member of a church choir. Recently, my brother and I gave a Concert in church to raise money for choir funds.
It was very well attended and we raised a staggering £550.
